Why Do Most HVAC Companies Still Compete on Price?
Count the HVAC vans in any Australian suburb. Split-system installers, ducted-gas specialists, evaporative-cooling crews and commercial refrigeration teams are all chasing the same customer, with the same brands and the same services. So the cheapest quote wins and margins shrink.
But customers don’t really want cheap. They want the house cool before the weekend heatwave, and someone who turns up on time and stands behind the job. The company that shows up first on Google, with a website that answers the real question, is often the one that gets the call before price comes up.
Stop competing on price. Start competing on presence.
HVAC Digital Marketing Built for Contractors
21 Webs builds and manages the complete digital marketing stack for HVAC companies. Three capabilities, one strategy, one accountable team.
An HVAC website has a few seconds to answer three questions: Do you do what I need? Do you serve my area? Can I book you right now?
- A page per service: split systems, ducted gas, evaporative cooling, commercial refrigeration, each with its own keyword and path to a booking
- Tap-to-call on mobile: the number is always visible, always tappable
- Quote and booking forms in every service section
- Fast by default: light code and lazy-loaded images, built with Core Web Vitals in mind
- SEO-ready from day one: on-page SEO set up, schema in place, sitemap live
HVAC SEO: Show Up Before the Competition Does
HVAC demand is predictable. Spring brings service bookings, summer brings split-system installs and breakdowns, autumn is ducted-gas maintenance, winter is heating repairs. SEO puts you in the results before the customer knows they need you.
- Service + suburb: “air conditioning installation [suburb]”, “ducted heating repair [suburb]”
- Brand + model: “[brand] reverse cycle install”, “[brand] ducted repair”
- Emergency: “24 hour air conditioning repair near me”
- Comparisons: “ducted vs split system”
For contractors covering 20+ suburbs, we build a network of service-area pages: one service, one suburb, one page. Together they build a footprint across the Maps pack and organic results. It’s the same local SEO approach that took ADCS, an NDIS provider in Sydney, to #1 for “ndis provider sydney”. See also small business SEO.
One search. Six places to win the job.
- Map pack3 contractors, rated 4.9 to 5.0, up to 1,000 reviews
- People also ask“How much does it cost to install an aircon in Melbourne?”
- A community forum threadlocals asking for installer recommendations
- Contractors’ own websitesservice pages for split and ducted systems
- People also search for“split system installation Melbourne” and more
- Directory listingsquote-comparison sites

HVAC Lead Generation & Paid Media
SEO covers the long game. Paid media covers right now.
- Google Ads: service + suburb ads, shown at the moment someone searches
- Social media ads: low-cost retargeting and seasonal awareness
- Seasonal timing: heating content live well before autumn, cooling content live well before spring

One Partner for HVAC SEO, Ads and Your Website
Most HVAC companies get here the hard way: a nephew built the website, an SEO agency sends reports nobody reads, and a Google Ads freelancer works in isolation. When one team designs the site, the SEO and the ads, every piece feeds the others.
| Factor | One integrated partner | Three separate suppliers |
|---|---|---|
| The website | Built around the keywords that actually convert | Built around what looked good |
| SEO content | Targets the searches ads are too expensive to chase | Written without seeing the ad data |
| Ad landing pages | Already optimised: the same team built them | Usually the homepage |
| Reporting | One dashboard, one set of numbers | Three spreadsheets, three different numbers |
| Who’s accountable | One team | Everyone points at someone else |
In an industry of 7,590 businesses worth about $14.5 billion in 2026 (IBISWorld), marketing that pulls in one direction is an edge.

What Results Can We Show an HVAC Business?
These case studies aren’t HVAC companies. 21 Webs works across trades and service businesses, and the method is the same: a page per core service and suburb, local SEO, and content Google can match to the right search. It’s what took ADCS to #1 for core NDIS keywords and Sigma Plumbing from page 5 to page 1 across Western Sydney.
What a Full HVAC Marketing Engagement Looks Like
Some HVAC businesses have a website from 2018. Others rank but the phone isn’t ringing. The engagement adapts to where you start; the framework stays the same.
Step 1: HVAC SEO Research and Keyword Mapping
Site speed and mobile use, where you rank today, who's outranking you and why, and what your ads have burned. The output: a page-per-service-per-suburb map.
Step 2: Build, Optimise and Launch
A search-first site or redesign (web design), on-page SEO, schema and Google Business Profile, seasonal content, and Google Ads and social media campaigns.
Step 3: Measure Your HVAC Lead Generation
One dashboard for rankings, traffic and leads. Monthly reports cover keyword movement, lead sources and cost per lead by channel. SEO keeps building, and ads are adjusted as the data comes in.
How Big Is Australia's HVAC Industry, and Where Is Your Share?
Australia’s air conditioning and heating services industry is worth about $14.5 billion in 2026, across 7,590 businesses (IBISWorld, 2026). That’s a lot of businesses chasing the same searches, so the ones that win online take a bigger slice.

Cooling searches peaked in January at 49,500, about 7.5× the September low. Heating repair searches climb from March and hold through winter. Your SEO and ads should be ready well before each peak, not when the phone starts ringing.

Your HVAC SEO and Marketing Questions, Answered
Straight answers to what HVAC contractors ask us most. Still unsure? We reply within one business day.
How is HVAC marketing different from marketing for other trades?
HVAC is far more seasonal. Searches for “air conditioning repair” in Australia swung between 49,500 in January 2026 and 6,600 in September 2026 (Google keyword data). Strategies that don’t build SEO and content in the off-season, and start ads at the beginning of the ramp, are always reacting. HVAC also has strong brand searches and a large commercial market: IBISWorld notes that much of the industry’s revenue comes from non-residential buildings. See our local SEO service.
How long before I see results from SEO?
SEO builds over time, and nobody can honestly promise a date. Low-competition terms usually move first. A busy suburb for a high-volume term takes longer, with steady content, optimisation and local listings. Google Ads can bring enquiries sooner while your rankings grow, which is why many HVAC businesses run both. Your monthly report shows what moved.
Do I need a new website, or can you market my current one?
It depends on the foundation. A modern, fast site can usually be optimised rather than rebuilt. A dated site, a locked-down website builder or poor Core Web Vitals usually means a rebuild pays back faster. Your free proposal tells you which one makes sense, and why.
What does HVAC digital marketing cost?
It depends on how many services and suburbs you want to rank for, and how busy your market is. Our packages run from Basic to Elite (see our packages below). Every one is month-to-month, with no lock-in contracts, and AI SEO is included. Ad spend is separate and moves with the season. Multi-location or commercial-plus-residential businesses usually need a custom mix, which we set out in your free proposal.
Can you build pages for the brands I install?
Yes. We build pages for the brands you specialise in, like “[brand] ducted installation [suburb]” or “[brand] split system replacement [suburb]”. They reach customers who search by brand and model.
Can you handle my Google Business Profile and review management?
Yes. Google Business Profile optimisation is included from our Growth package up. For a local HVAC business, a well-kept profile matters: it feeds the map pack, and it’s your first impression when someone searches your name. Want help with reviews as well? Mention it when you ask for your free proposal.
